Jon McDonald grew up in California, but has lived in Colorado, Oklahoma, and Delaware as well. He is the father of two and husband to one. He works in logistics and delivery. While he enjoys his work he aspires to one day self-employ as the owner of a tavern.
He enjoyed high school, where he participated in cross country and track and field as well as the school’s writing club, where he produced nothing of note. College was also a good experience—he earned a B.S. in History and trained in the university’s space program operating satellites (Falconsat 3, if you’re interested). Since then he has just been working and starting his family. One of his biggest hobbies is board gaming and role playing games. That’s why he hopes to one day be able to open a gaming tavern with old-style wooden benches, a roaring fireplace, and space for people to enjoy a drink while playing their favorite games. Wish him luck.

about his story "Firestone"
Honorable Mention for The Scribes Prize
What inspired this piece?
I started with the word “firestone” and went from there. That’s why they’re around a fireplace in a stoneage-ish setting, I think. I was also curious how flint was formed, turns out it’s a sedimentary rock.
Who are some authors that inspire you?
Patrick Rothfuss, Alexis Tocqueville, and C. S. Lewis (particularly the Screwtape Letters).
What's next on the horizon for you?
I am working on my second game. The first is a storytelling game called Novella that can be found on RPGGeek.com. The next is a full blown adventure game called Heromaker that’s all about playing out the roles of characters in stories such as these.
